All’s Well n’ Good…
Thank Allah for an internet connection.
Since I ditched my job at the Irish pub and moved into my new apartment, I’ve been left almost completely internet-less. And for the most part, it’s been rather nice. Granted, there are a few people that I’ve missed bunches because our relationships depend solely on the interweb, but this shall soon be remedied when we get the interblog installed in our apartment (By late November if the Spanish way of getting things done keeps going strong [it will])
So here’s a quick update:
Quit the pub job and started painting an apartment of a friend of a friend. I figured I would take this on alone, since I’m such the painting expert (bah), and found myself a week and a half later still marvelling at how one room could have so many corners. But that’s done and done and since then I’ve gotten back to teaching English in the mornings. It starting off slow, but I’m just fine with that; it’ll pick up soon enough.
On another note, Nathan and Edurne have moved out of Madrid. Luckily I finished painting just in time to run out the door and help Nate pack up the van. We caravaned down to a small little pueblo nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas, just south of Madrid - Nathan, myself, Inti, Julito and Fernando. A lovely little town of 900 with a mountain trail only a few minute walk from the front door and a nude beach 15 minutes by car (blurred out photos to come.)
We all had a wonderful time getting the two lovebirds installed in their new digs. And although it pains me to know that those two aren’t a metro ride away anymore, I know that I will make it down to visit them often.
As for now… well, Fernando and I drove up from Albunol (the village) late last night during a lightning storm that enabled us to see the Spanish landscapes illuminated by a constant panorama of lightning. Awfully cool. By 2:30 in the morning I was asleep and by 5:00AM I was up again and off to the airport to catch a plane to the Canary Islands.
I’ve spent the day checking out the old center of Las Palmas, taking naps, lying on the beach reading a book and splashing around in the ocean. I’m actually here to work - tomorrow morning I’ll be giving an English seminar - but I came a day early to kick back and end this summer memorably, and between the weekend at Nate’s and the next few days watching the sunset from the beach, I’ll come back in tip top shape.
Peace!
