Another Christmas classic, although I usually stick with the first half of the song; the second half is just kinda morbid, if you ask me.
Aloha, I am a hula/ukulele teacher in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. I want to thank you very much for your music sheet posts. They are wonderful. I was drawn to your website by my nine-year-old great granddaughter who wants me to teach her “Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer” on her ukulele. I went searching for the music and found YOU!
Over the past 20 years I have been collecting and transcribing native Hawaiian hula music and now have a recorded collection of over 300 songs, with a thousand more waiting to be recorded. I am 79 years old, and my intention has been to preserve the music and culture that my mother left to me. She was a hula teacher (kumu) as well.
My problem is that I have been preserving all this stuff but for whom? My children are not interested…
But that is not what I want to focus on. I need to tell you that what you are doing is so important, and SO APPRECIATED by someone who recognizes the importance of music in our lives. You have given me the will to continue on with my preservation project because if only ONE person will respect, honor and learn from it, it’s worthwhile.
I hope I am not the only ONE person who is gleaning from your gift of knowledge to the world. Thank you, thank you, thank you, and Happy New Year.
